Peer Observation

As for my observation I observed one of my colleagues - HS/TE18/0001. The lesson she had selected

was ‘prepositions of movements’, and her selected class and the level of the learners was grade 9

intermediate learners. She was also given the same time duration as mine - 10 minutes. Within that

allocated time she did her demonstration successfully, and she presented the post task of her lesson

plan.

The lesson incorporated mainly Communicative Language Teaching, and also the objective of the activity was to evaluate whether the learners have acquired the taught lesson or not. As for the resources she used a drawing. Eliciting, explaining and feedback were the teaching techniques and strategies she used. As I identified she used behaviorism as the teaching approach to her lesson. She started the lesson with a warm welcome creating an enthusiastic atmosphere. According to the level and the age of the students she incorporated simple words and phrases (e.g.; “you will charge your battery if you give the correct answer or else you will lose your battery power”). Apart from that, she maintained the engagement of the audience by giving continuous verbal feedback (“well done”, “good job”, and so on). Most interestingly, at the last stage of the demonstration she played a part of a song  (“happy happy, happy”), and it can be identified as a positive reinforcement.

So, as for her strengths during the demonstration giving feedback, visual representation, the clarity of the voice and the voice production, grading the language can be mentioned. Also, she used the techniques of gamification to maintain the engagement of the learners. As I noticed, the main challenge that she had to undergo was time management. Throughout the demonstration she looked like being in a hurry; especially in the first part she gave the instructions quickly.

Finally, in conclusion it was a considerable attempt for the given time duration. She almost used all the techniques she had selected along with the teaching approach - behaviorism. Further, she possessed a high confidence level, ample voice production and an authoritative tone during her demonstration.
